Summary:
The Refugee Services Department settles hundreds of refugees each year
and helps them to smoothly transition to life in the United States, to gain self-sufficiency and to become
socially integrated into their new community.
The Program Director provides professional leadership and oversight for all assigned programs.
He/she is responsible for leading the efforts of staff in developing, coordinating and implementing
all contracted, subcontracted and volunteer services including but not limited to resettlement,
English as a second language, employment and training, social adjustment and youth career
development. He/she is a member of the Sr. Leader's team and reports directly to the President/CEO.
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Social Work, Business Administration, Social Ministry or certified or licensed in a specific discipline
related to social work or counseling. 5 to 7
years of recent relevant work experience working in a strategic management capacity in a large, complex
refugee program. Must be a strategic thinker and have the experience planning,
developing and implementing systems that support the program's goals and objectives.
Experience formulating and managing multiple complex budgets. Must understand the needs of
clients as they transition from one culture to another. Must have experience working with
governmental contracts, social services, and/or international groups and systems. Must have
experience planning, organizing and developing community relationships and experience
speaking to a wide variety of audiences. Must have experience managing a diverse workforce.
Must have ability to develop staff leadership skills and create and nurture cohesiveness among
staff members. Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their
families in which they are helped to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and
problems they face. Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change. Ability to work
in partnership with other team members. Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the
practitioner to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or their family
members. Fluency in a foreign language would be helpful.
